DIAGNOSIS

Forewing: All veins separate; chorda present, M -stem absent.
Hindwing: Both R-M 1 and M 3-CuA 1 very close basally, or the latter connate; median stem distinct.

Forewing shape and markings:

Forewing broad, elongate-truncate. Costal fold absent. Ground colour dark with numerous pale spots.

Sexual dimorphism:
Antenna ciliate in male, pubescent in female.

Male:

Uncus strong and socii strong; arm of gnathos slender, terminal plate pointed, fairly large. Valva broad, not tapering distally, with well-developed costa and sacculus, the latter with free termination. Transtilla band-shaped; juxta simple. Aedeagus slender, in distal part well sclerotized dorsally. Cornuti short if present.

Sterigma short, often with distinct posterior fold from which the lateral parts extend; antrum large, weakly sclerotized or provided with inner sclerite; signum somewhat concave, dentate.

Early stages:

Larvae of Eurydoxa differ from those of Cerace in having setae SD1 and SD2 on abdominal segments 1-8 situated on separate pinacula.

Biology:

There is a single generation yearly; hibernation in the larval stage. Young larvae feed in needles and spin them together to form hibernacula.

Distribution:

Western part of Oriental region and eastern part of Palaearctic region.
