Forewing: R 4-R 5 stalked.
Hindwing: M 3 -CuA 1 extending from one point.

Forewing shape and markings:
Homona magnanima adults ; Homona coffearia adults
Forewing elongate semi-ovate, males with broad, semi-circular costal fold. In many species median fascia divided in oblique dorsal fascia and darker costal patch in males.

Sexual dimorphism:
Apex of forewing more produced in females; forewing without costal fold. Markings reduced in females.

Genitalia:

Male:
male genitalia H. coffearia ; male genitalia H. magnanima
Uncus large, with rounded, clavate top. Socii narrow, drooping. Valva very broad, short, triangular; sacculus strongly sclerotized, with pointed free termination.

Female:

Sterigma species-specific. Ductus bursae long, with long cestum. Signum large.

Early stages:

Eggs are deposited in large batches. Larvae of species included in the species cards are greenish in colour.

Biology:

Japanese species have 2-3 generation yearly. Larvae hibernate. The larvae of many species are polyphagous.

Distribution:

Eastern Palaearctic and Oriental Regions.
