DIAGNOSIS

External characters:

Venation:
venation G. margarotana
Forewing: Chorda weak, extending from 1/3 R 1-R 2 to before base of R 5; M -stem to base of M 2; two last median veins in close proximity basally.
Hindwing: M 2 and CuA 1 connate or short stalked.

Forewing shape and markings:
G. margarotana adult
Forewing with irregular fasciate markings; costal fold absent.

Genitalia:

Male:
male genitalia G. margarotana
Tegumen broad, uncus sclerotic, bifurcate beyond middle; socius broad, sub-rigid, sparsely haired. Valva without clasper, with very deep notch in ventral margin, and with triangular cucullus.

Female:
female genitalia G. margarotana
Sterigma subdivided; a sclerotic collar like structure situated in the membrane beyond eighth tergite; ductus bursae short; cingulum large; corpus bursae with two signa.

Early stages:
Gravitarmata margarotana larva
Chaetotaxy larvae unknown.
larva margarotana : 11 mm long, cylindrical, hardly flattened; head and prothoracic plate brownish-black; abdomen brownish red, with short whitish-grey setae.

Biology:

One generation yearly; hibernation in larval stage; larvae feed in twigs and cones of conifers.

Distribution:

Palaearctic Region.
