DIAGNOSIS

External characters:

Venation:
Forewing: Chorda from 2/3 distance R 1-R 2 to base of R 5; M -stem indistinct, terminating before base of M 3, CuP atrophying.
Hindwing: M 3 and CuA 1 stalked to middle.

aestuosa, ancyrota : Forewing with dark suffusion along costa; costal fold present in males.

Male:
male genitalia E. aestuosa ; male genitalia E. ancyrota
Uncus broad, short, bifid or incised terminally; socius hairy; valva broad anteriorly, neck distinct, spined or bristled; posterior edge of basal cavity bristled; cucullus short, broad, spined; marginal spines on cucullus strong but short; sacculus or cucullus with additional long spines; aedeagus simple; cornuti deciduous.

Female:
female genitalia E. ancyrota ; female genitalia E. aestuosa
Posterior margin of lamella postvaginalis producing laterally; cingulum large, situated medially in ductus bursae; corpus bursae pyriform, with two strong signa.

Chaetotaxy larvae unknown.

Biology:

Eucoenogenes aestuosa : In Hokkaido (Japan) there is one generation yearly, in the south of Japan there are more generations yearly. Hibernation occurs in the larval stage; larvae feed in seeds of Castanea.

Distribution:

Known from the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions.
